Droniq GmbH is a joint venture founded by DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung and Deutsche Telekom. The company is based in Frankfurt, Germany, and has set itself the objective of advancing the professional and safe use of unmanned aircraft systems by public authorities and organisations tasked with public safety and security as well as by companies.

The core of Droniq’s product offering is the Droniq traffic management system for unmanned aircraft systems (UTM). The UTM shows pilots all surrounding air traffic – both manned and unmanned. Furthermore, other air traffic participants can also see the drone, if necessary. With this system, which is unique in Germany, Droniq is creating the basis for using drones safely beyond the visual line of sight.

Other services offered by Droniq include the sale of drones for commercial and government use, as well as hardware and software solutions for their safe operation. The University of Applied Sciences Ingolstadt – Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI) is a dedicated mobility university. The THI has a number of institutes and research organizations with a wide variety of research projects in the field of mobility. Additionally the THI is part of a cross university High-Tech Agenda that connects universities in their AI activities. The THI based AI mobility node bundles the specific research activities in order to develop AI-based solutions for mobility in the future.

The application cluster “Unmanned Flying” as part of the AI mobility node focuses on using artificial intelligence algorithms in the operation of unmanned aerial systems. A number of drones for different applications can be used as development platforms. Through the participation in aerospace research project “Sagitta”, where a mission supervisor was implemented in a research demonstrator, as well as the research project ASSET and IDEA the THI offers large experience in integrating functions in research demonstrators, as well as aerospace software development.

THI is subcontractor of Droniq GmbH for the ACHILLES project.
